Kathia Rock, an Inuk artist, will be performing at the Brome Lake Theatre on Saturday, sharing her knowledge of Innu culture through music, storytelling and theatre.
Rock grew up on the North Shore, in the Innu community of Uashat-Mak-Maliotenam. She moved to Montreal when she was 14 years old to follow her passion for arts and culture. She has spent more than a decade gathering stories from Innu elders.
In an interview with The Record, Rock said she has been meeting with elders from Innu communities, speaking to them about their past, and asking them to leave behind their memories, culture, and language. She has incorporated it all into her performance.
