The provincial government has announced new measures to help identify firefighters travelling in emergency situations.
As of April 1, 2021, the Highway Safety Code will allow a firefighter responding to a call from a fire department to display a flashing green light in a vehicle other than an emergency vehicle.
“In an emergency situation, every minute is crucial,” explained Geneviève Guilbault, Deputy Premier, Minister of Public Safety in a press release. “Since many Quebec municipalities use volunteer or part-time firefighters, we believe it is essential that they be able to get to the scene of an emergency as quickly as possible. It is in this context that the flashing green light becomes a precious ally,” the public safety minister added.
