Over the course of his 87 years living and working in and around Lennoxville, John Nichol touched a lot of lives. Since his death at the end of the month of May, many in the community have been left reflecting on the significant roles he played and how best to remember him.
“It’s sad to have him go,” said Bev Loomis, who shared memories of many years spent as neighbours on Nichol Road in Waterville. “I’ve known him for 73 years.”
Though many people knew Nichol through the family butcher shop, his decades as the Lennoxville fire chief, or, more recently, his work at Alexander Galt Regional High School, Loomis shared that she first got to know Nichol when he was 14 years old through the 4-H.

“He was a hunter, a trapper, and a fisherman,” she said, noting that among many other prizes and awards for various reasons over the years, he was made an honourary member of the Compton County Fish and Game Club.
“He lived in this community all 87 years of his life and so many people know him,” his daughter said.
