Québec’s Public Health Department announced 840 new cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of people infected in the province to 24,107. During the same period, 69 new deaths were recorded, bringing the total to 1,515. The number of hospitalizations was recorded at 1,518, among which 215 are in intensive care.
In the Estrie region the number of recorded cases increased to 815 from 805 the day before. The highest concentration of cases in the region continue to be in the Sherbrooke, Haute-Yamaska, La Pommeraie, and Memphremagog local healthcare networks, which also represent the largest population centres.
As the province continues to work on limiting the spread of the virus the Public Health Department is reminding the public that it is important to frequently wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water, especially when you come in from outside; use alcohol-based disinfectant on your hands if soap and water are unavailable; stay at least two metres away from other people; avoid all gatherings, inside or out; and stay home, except where necessary.
Contrary to what was said in the early days of the isolation period, wearing a face covering in public is now also recommended when physical distancing is not possible, such as when taking public transit. Wearing a face covering in public places is not an excuse to stop the other safety measures previously mentioned.
Should symptoms appear:
• self-isolate;
• cough into your elbow;
• immediately discard tissues after use and wash your hands;
• consult the Self-care Guide or call 1-877-644-4545 to find out about procedures to be followed.
