Family members representing nine veterans of the Korean War gathered together in Sherbrooke’s Jacques-Cartier Park on Sunday afternoon to receive the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal on their behalf.
The commemorative medal is an expression of appreciation from the Korean government to Canadian service men and women who served in the Korean War from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953 or during peacekeeping work up to 1955. It was originally presented as a special memento to veterans who returned to South Korea through the ‘Revisit Program’, but has since been expanded to include those veterans who cannot make the journey to Korea.
