Kyra Simons, a fifth year soccer player at Bishop’s University, has been named this year’s recipient of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) Leadership and Community Award, becoming the third consecutive Gaiters student-athlete to claim the honour.
Simons is also the fourth Bishop’s student-athlete to earn the award in the past five years. She joins Kayla Kyle, last year’s recipient, Lindsay Moore, and Sarah-Kim Bergeron as winners since 2017. Former Gaiters student-athlete Samantha Juraschka won in both 2010 and 2011.
The award is given out every year based on voting from coaches within the RSEQ. Simons has been recognized for her outstanding commitment to community building, pursuing advocacy initiatives off the field, and volunteering her time to raise funds in support of Special Olympics.
