In addition to the teachers’ strike this morning, the Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux (APTS) also held a demonstration Wednesday. Standing with signs outside the CHUS Fleurimont, union members called on the government to offer financial compensation as a way to acknowledge the titanic work done by the 432 employees working in laboratories during the pandemic.
“In Quebec, more than 7 million tests for COVID-19 have been performed since the beginning of the pandemic thanks to these women and men,” stated Danny Roulx, APTS provincial representative for the Estrie region.
“Unfortunately, our laboratories are dangerously disorganized due to the consequences of the labour shortage, which has only increased over the past year. The government can reverse this trend by promoting the attraction and retention of personnel in this critical sector,” Roulx said.
