Legault expected to prorogue legislature

Before breaking last week, Quebec Premier François Legault announced his intention to prorogue the National Assembly this week and begin a new legislative session when MNAs return on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
This will afford the premier an opportunity to deliver a fresh inauguration speech and reset the agenda for the coming year, the fourth and final year of his current mandate.
An inauguration speech is an opportunity for the government to highlight achievements and promises. For Legault, it is a moment to shift focus from the ongoing battle to control the COVID-19 pandemic and turn public attention to the future.
