Lennoxville Business ­Association reaching for more autonomy from ­Commerce Sherbrooke

Heading into its third year in operation, the Lennoxville Business Association (LBA) is facing some growing pains. Founded in the spring of 2016 as a part of an initiative by Commerce Sherbrooke, a local non-profit organization focused on commercial development in the city of Sherbrooke, to revitalize the borough, the association has been facing challenges in recent months with having the freedom to make its own decisions
“The leadership of Commerce Sherbrooke changed, and the new directors are giving us less freedom with regard to our actions and the possibility of projects we can put forward,” said Matthieu Poisson, President of the LBA, following the association’s annual general meeting last week. The president explained that although Commerce Sherbrooke was instrumental in getting the association started, the LBA is now struggling with how dependent it is on the organization for everything from its finances to membership information. “We want to be able to send our own emails without having to pass through them,” he said, as an example.
