Six women’s shelters and rehabilitation centres are tuning in to Mélanie Couture’s Zoom show for a night of laughter this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Inspired by this year’s theme for International Women’s Day, “listen to women”, the comedy event was concocted by women for women as a feel-good affair to chuckle away their fear and anxiety.
Originally planned as a theatre piece then as Zoom skits, the event took on many forms before it landed in the hands of Couture, a Quebec comedian and former sex therapist.
“We want to talk about the various issues impacting women but we also want to bring a tint of humour,” explained Josée Stébenne, a social worker at Granby’s Centre de femmes Entr’elles.
In the past, the Coalition des Groupes de Femmes de la Haute-Yamaska et Brome-Missisquoi would have recruited social workers and counsellors for an amateur theatre performance and an evening of discussions.
