Quebec’s Lieutenant Governor, J. Michel Doyon, was in Sherbrooke over the weekend for the presentation of the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal to 47 different individuals from across the Eastern Townships.

The medal was created to recognize the involvement, determination and ongoing efforts of people who have had a positive influence in their community or on Quebec as a whole. There are three categories of medals: Lieutenant Governor’s Youth Medal (bronze), Lieutenant Governor’s Seniors Medal (silver), and Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Exceptional Merit (gold).

This past Sunday’s ceremony saw the presentation of 29 bronze medals to students from local schools, including Katherine McLellan from Alexander Galt Regional High School and Carl Coddington from Richmond Regional High School. The ceremony also recognized 18 silver medal recipients including Joe Kelly, nominated by Cleveland Township, and William “Billy” Johnston, nominated by Melbourne Township.
