A local artist has been awarded the Artist in the Community award for her commitment to public space in her four-year project, Quatre-Quart.
Kristelle Holliday of Sherbrooke was awarded the “Artist in the community” prize from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) for her work on her project, Quatre-Quart. The award aims to promote, in the public space, the commitment of artists who are partners in local development. A prize of $10,000 is associated with it.
Holliday said the seed of the project began when she first landed in Sherbrooke in 2011.
“When I arrived in Sherbrooke, the first thing I heard was that downtown was unloved and people didn’t like it. I kept hearing about this black hole that existed, especially around the Wellington Sud area,” said Holliday.
