Last Thursday, Bonnie-Lee Beaucage got a visit from the Office Québécois de la Langue Française to let her know that a complaint had been filed against her new business, Avenue du Barbier. The complaint, Beaucage explained, surrounds the words “barber shop” printed over top of one of the two windows of her storefront.
“(The inspector) just popped in while I was working,” the barber said, saying that the visit was completely out of the blue as far as she was concerned. After establishing that Beaucage was the owner of the business, the inspector produced a letter explaining that a complaint had been filed with the office and was now under investigation. “It sucks. It’s hard to start getting a business going, a tiny little shop, and then bang.”
