Local covid deaths reach 500

The total number of people in hospital with COVID-19 across Quebec decreased to 2,888 on Monday, 1,308 of whom were there directly because of the virus. The overall total included 223 people in intensive care, 84 per cent of whom were ‘primary’ cases.

The province reported 33 new covid-related deaths to start the week, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 13,223.

As of Monday the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS has stopped publishing data on the local COVID-19 situation, including updates about the local vaccination campaign. According to data provided by the provincial government, there were 150 people in hospital in the region, 15 of whom were in intensive care. The total number of deaths linked to COVID 19 in the region also increased by three over the weekend, to reach 500 since March of 2020. Nearly one fifth of those deaths were reported over the course of the last month.

Provincewide third-dose coverage reached 45 per cent in Monday’s report, and the numbers for the campaign to vaccinate 5-11-year-olds were 62 per cent for a first dose and 20 per cent for a second.
