Anyone outside in certain parts of Sherbrooke’s north end over the last few days would have been hard pressed not to notice the crows.
Whereas it is not that unusual to see a small group of the black birds cawing together near the side of the road or in a tree, the gatherings witnessed near the corner of Argyll and Prospect Streets on Sunday and Monday of this week numbered at least 100 and could be heard at a significant distance.
In short, there are a lot of them.
While the visual might have inspired thoughts of Alfred Hitchcock or the Wicked Witch of the West, Vermont-based Naturalist Bridget Butler told The Record that the large-scale roosting is very normal at this time of year.
“This is a winter-specific phenomenon that we see with crows and sometimes other species of birds like starlings,” Butler said.
