This election was an exciting one to watch from both a local and national perspective. While the Liberals were declared early Monday evening, confirming that it would be a minority government was a gamble until several hours later when the final polling stations reported their results.
The Liberals ended the night with 157 seats, with the Conservative party winning 121 seats. The Bloc Québecois won 32 seats and the New Democratic Party won 24 seats. Compared to how things stood before the election, the Liberals and NDP lost support. The Liberals lost 20 seats and the NDP lost 15 seats while the conservatives gained 26 seats and the Bloc had a surge in popularity, gaining 20 seats this election. Here in the Townships nothing was certain. See full story in the Wednesday, Oct. 23 edition of The Record.
