Quebec’s provincial institute of public health, the INSPQ, reported 4,209 known active cases of COVID-19 in the Eastern Townships on Tuesday and 3,482 new cases reported over the last seven days. This works out to just under 500 new cases per day, not taking into account rapid tests that were done at home.

As of Tuesday’s report there were 89 people hospitalized in the region, 14 of whom are in intensive care. This is comparable to the peak of hospitalizations in the region during the second wave of the virus in January of 2021.

The number of deaths in the region since the start of the pandemic has climbed to 410, with eight new deaths over the last week.

The CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS has yet to indicate when they intend to provide another detailed update on the local situation.
