Local vendors find a home on Townships e-commerce platform

Although the Quebec government made efforts to protect small, local businesses and more consumers shopped locally throughout the last few months, Virginia Wilson saw a bandaid, not a permanent fix.
The 41-year-old Knowlton resident launched an e-commerce website called eTownships in January 2020, not knowing that the province would shut down because of a pandemic three months later.
Her goal was to help vendors in the Eastern Townships gain exposure and sell their products. When small businesses started to suffer and the government rolled out its economic plan, she had a gut-feeling it wouldn’t be enough.
“From a lucrative standpoint, a lot of larger corporations or businesses are not going to be interested in investing that much time and money for what it’s going to return to them in terms of finances,” Wilson said.
