Danville resident Debra-Lee Batyi was driving on Route 243 between Richmond and Cleveland towards the Wales Home for her night shift when she came across a wounded deer in the middle of the road at approximately 10:35 p.m.
She pulled over, exited her vehicle, and began assessing the situation. Soon after, her colleague happened to be driving by and stopped to help. Together, they moved the deer to the side of the road. A car then approached from behind, also stopping to help. While Batyi attempted to calm the deer, her colleague went to ask the driver to call 911 as neither Batyi nor herself had cellphones. When her colleague returned, the deer was spooked and became agitated.
