There were nearly 200 people in attendance at the Afghanistan solidarity march in Sherbrooke on Sunday. Participants showed up with flags, microphones and posters calling for peace in the Middle East and asking Canadians to continue supporting vulnerable Afghans. There were also several speeches from key figures in the community prior to the march around Lac des Nations, including Madina Asefi, one of the march organizers, and Shah Ismatullah Habibi, the director of l’Association éducative transculturelle à Sherbrooke. The situation in Afghanistan has worsened every day since the Taliban took back control of the country two weeks ago.
