Logane Rheaume named Player of the Week

A strong game against the Lionel-Groulx Nordiques has earned Champlain defenceman Logane Rheaume a place on the CEGEP women’s hockey players of the week honours.
The 19-year old Sherbrooke native played a leadership role in the Cougars’ 4-1 victory over the Nordiques last Sunday. She scored the game winner with a power play goal midway through the second period. The former Sherbrooke Harfangs standout is in her third and final year with the Cougars.
Rookie head coach Maxime Gosselin’s club has a 3-2 record heading into this weekend’s action. Besides the win over Lionel Groulx, Champlain has defeated Rimouski, 2-0, and John Abbott 4-1. Gosselin took over from Marie-Andrée Leclerc-Auger just prior to the season.
They lost 1-0 to Andre Laurendeau and 5-2 to the first-place St-Laurent Patriotes. They will have an opportunity to avenge the loss to the Patriotes Sautrday afternoon when they host St. Laurent at 3 p.m. at Molson Arena.
The men’s hockey team has made a successful return to the CEGEP league after being a dominant force in the Quebec Junior Hockey League for the last 14 seasons. Head coach Stephan Lebeau’s squad opened the 2015-16 campaign with a 4-1 win over Dawson, dropped a 5-2 to the first-place Ste-Foy Dynamiques before embarking on a three-game winning streak. They beta Alma 5-3, edged Lionel Groulx 4-3 and defeated Thetford 3-2. The Cougars will be on the road this weekend playing the St-Laurent Patriotes Friday night and Thetford Saturday evening. Their next home game is Friday, Oct. 9th when they host the Dawson Blues at Molson Arena. Puck drop is slated for 8 p.m.
In other Champlain news, the Cougar soccer teams will host Victoriaville this Sunday at Coulter Field.
The women will take a 1-2-1 record into Sunday’s contest which gets underway at 2 p.m. The men will be looking to improve on their 2-2 record when they battle Victoriaville at 2 p.m.
The women’s rugby team will be looking for their second win of the season when they play Heritage, a team they defeated 49-0 in their season opener.
