Lunar eclipse coming up this month

Amateur astronomers of the Eastern Townships take note: a total lunar eclipse is expected overnight on Sunday, January 20 and into the morning of Monday, January 21.
“The moon is already a very bright, easily identified object so as long as you are in the right place at the right time and the sky is clear, you will be able to see the eclipse,” said Guillaume Poulin, an astronomy specialist at the Parc national du Mont-Mégantic, explaining that as long as the weather cooperates, the phenomenon should be visible throughout the region. “What is interesting this time around is that in Southern Quebec the eclipse will begin after the moon has already risen and it will still be in the sky when the eclipse is finished,” the specialist added. “We will really be able to see an eclipse from beginning to end, which is not always the case.” See full story in the Wednesday, Jan. 9 edition of The Record.
