The City of Magog is inviting women to submit their candidacy for the Denise Poulin-Marcotte Fund, named for the first woman to be elected to Magog’s municipal council in 1994.
The fund was created three years ago to recognize the work accomplished by Poulin-Marcotte, and to encourage women to pursue career opportunities and other endeavours in what were previously considered male-dominated fields.
Each year a $500 grant is awarded to a woman in the Magog area who practices an unconventional trade or sport.
Denise Poulin-Marcotte was the first woman to be elected to the Magog municipal council in 1994. She subsequently obtained six consecutive mandates. During those years, she held various positions on municipal committees and commissions such as the Comité consultatif d’urbanisme, the Comité de la toponymie, Magog en fleurs, in addition to volunteering for other municipal activities and charitable events organized by the community.
Those interested in applying should fill out the form at ville.magog.qc.ca/fonds-dpm. The deadline for applications is Friday, Oct. 1.
