The Quebec government announced an increase in funding for palliative care homes earlier this week. This is excellent news for La Maison Aube-Lumière in Sherbrooke, which will see its annual grant increase from $80,000 to $110,000 per bed. The adjustment in subsidies will allow the home to offer better salary conditions to the health care personnel who work there with compassion and professionalism.

The increase is the result of 18 months of negotiations between the Alliance des Maisons de soins palliatifs du Québec and the Quebec government. The increase in the annual subsidy raises the share of funding assumed by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux from 40 to 50 per cent. The agreement will remain in effect until 2025.
