March is maple month

Throughout the month of March The Record will celebrate the time honoured tradition of sugaring in the Townships.
Readers are invited to send in pictures and memories of their favourite moments around the wood stove in the sugar shack, or out emptying sap buckets waist-deep in snow.
Each week, The Record will feature an article on different aspects of the maple industry in the townships and its impact on the community.
Topics could range from the modernization of the sugaring process, the benefits and challenges of small vs. large operations, the effects of climate change on the sugaring season or the colour and quality of syrup from different producers.
Odd winter weather had some maple producers out tapping trees in December of last year.
Can you remember a time when the season came early, late, or almost not at all because of challenging weather?
Do you have delicious maple recipes to share?
Does your family have a sugar shack passed down for generations?
Can you remember the first time you tried sugar on snow?
Are you new to the area and looking for a place to start a new tradition with your family?
Send your thoughts, pictures, recipes and memories of sugaring, or even describe the work involved in getting ready for this season’s harvest.
The Record looks forward to sharing your stories and experiences.
All submissions will be entered into a draw to win a basket of local maple products. The winner will be chosen March 28.
