The Lennoxville Curling Club held its 54th annual Lennoxville Ladies Mardi Gras Bonspiel this past week. Besides teams from the local club, there were teams from the Magog Curling Club, the Sherbrooke Curling Club, the Celanese Curling Club of Drummondville and the North Hatley Curling Clubs vying to etch their names onto either the Mardi Gras Trophy or the Doug Guthrie Memorial Trophy.
This year’s bonspiel was filled with many great shots leading to many close contests thus leaving the spectators and the “behind the glass skips” in awe. The bonspiel was not all about curling – with club well decorated in a Mardi Gras theme the curlers where also treated to a well-received and appreciated Friday “Sherry Party” and Saturday “Luncheon”.
In the final matches; Marie-Eve Langevin’s team from the Sherbrooke Curling Club skipped her team to victory over Josée Rourke’s Celanese team to take the Mardi Gras Trophy while Suzanne Gosselin’s Magog rink outlasted Allison Kavanagh’s Lennoxville team to take the Doug Guthrie Memorial Trophy.
On Feb. 25 the club will continue to celebrate its 100th anniversary by playing some fun games outdoors. Curlers can sign up at the club. Also, the club will hold a draw to the button contest at the club for Curling Day in Canada. We need as many curlers as possible to show up for the 30-minute timed contest.
