The Sherbrooke Phoenix remain undefeated in the postseason.

Thanks to a first period hattrick from Jacob Melanson, the visiting Phoenix opened their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League semifinal series with a 5-2 victory in front of more than 8,700 fans against the Halifax Mooseheads on Saturday night.

“It was an amazing feeling,” said Melanson, the game’s first star. “I grew up watching the Halifax Mooseheads when I was younger so to be able to score a hat trick in a third-round playoff series is pretty big for me.”

The regular season 50 goal scorer said it was nice to score three goals in his game in front of a lot of family and friends but highlighted it wouldn’t have happened without a team effort.

“I feel like everyone stepped up today and gave it their all,” he said.

Joshua Roy and Anthony Munroe-Boucher also scored for the Phoenix, who led 3-1 after the first period and 4-2 heading into the third. The Phoenix outshot the Mooseheads 43-19.
