A team of eight locals have organized a Memphré Lecture Series, a new series of general interest talks beginning this spring in Georgeville, Québec.

Open to everyone, Suzi Dix, one of the organizers, said those who attended lectures in Newport in the past will recognize the format.

“When the pandemic hit, nobody could cross the border. We had to cancel a very popular series that had been going on for 11 years in Newport,” she said.

According to Dix, the group got together and thought they could recreate a similar series in Quebec, knowing there are a lot of interested people who want to stretch their brain and connect with one another.

“This initial series will offer three lectures starting April 19 and running through May 17,” said Dix, who added the presentations are estimated to take around one hour, with questions to follow.

The lectures will take place every other Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Murray Community Centre in Georgeville. Refreshments are included with the $10 admission fee.
