Until Oct. 24, Moisson Estrie, one of the main food banks in the Sherbrooke region will be hosting its second contactless food drive and it is looking for volunteers to help reach as many people as possible. over 15,000 people are supported either directly and indirectly throughout the year by the food bank.
With the pandemic raging on, the number of people benefiting from the services of Moisson Estrie has increased by 20-30 per cent according to Benoit Huberdeau, a volunteer who headed the first edition of the contactless food drive in May.
“We are the redistribution centre for around 50 other organizations. We are not just a local food bank, we are more of a regional food bank providing stock for regions as far as Lac-Meganitc and Granby,” Huberdeau explained.
Anyone who would like to donate foodstuff can contact Moisson Estrie at (819) 822-6025 ext. 40 to receive a bag. People wanting to volunteer their time and become what Moisson Estrie calls a “sower of hearts” can call the aforementioned number to get a larger number of bags to spread around a neighborhood. “While in the pandemic, and with health guidelines, no volunteer knocks on the door. They only drop the bag off in the mailbox with the date that it will be picked up,” Huberdeau said.
