Francois Rebello, the driving force behind the project to establish trains service between the Eastern Townships and Montreal, gathered what he called a “family photo” of local politicians together for a ride through the Eastern Townships countryside on Wednesday evening. Although the lobbyist has yet to secure the support necessary from the Federal Government to move ahead with the track repairs needed to ensure fast, reliable passenger rail service from Montreal to Boston via Sherbrooke, he said, based on the people present on Wednesday, that he feels the project is “on the right track.” Mayors from Sherbrooke, Bromont, Farnham, Cowansville and Bedford, as well as the Prefect of the Brome-Missisquoi MRC and local candidates for the Liberal, CAQ, and Parti-Quebecois partys rode the train with Rebello alongside representatives of a number of local economic and community organizations.
