A new mountain biking skills park has opened at Parc de la gorge de Coaticook following six weeks of construction and over a year of logistical preparations and stacks of paperwork.
The skills park features tabletop jumps, drops, technical climbs, and steep turns. There are six tracks, according to the park’s general manager, Caroline Fage, and the project came out to roughly $150,000 — mostly funded by investments. The park opened on Saturday, she said.
“We had about 50 people using the skills park. The comments were excellent, it’s rolling well, the flow is good, and we’re seeing a lot of positives, they’re saying ‘thank you,’” Fage shared, adding a group of mountain biking ambassadors had been pushing for this project for years.
While mountain biking enthusiasts were able to take full advantage of the park over the weekend, it took a while to break ground on the new park due to the lengthy review process by the insurance companies. The park needed to be designed for optimum safety and low risk.
