Ok… and? Words without action are just that, words. Whether or not the Vatican chooses to recognize the documents giving their people the right to colonize whatever they so choose, it doesn’t change the fact they let it happen. They can’t say there was the slightest attempt to stop the horrors of residential schools because regulations were never put in place on what their missionaries couldn’t do. On top of that, they STILL haven’t done anything but sweep the old decrees under the rug, meaning by their rules there’s nothing explicitly saying this sort of thing can’t be done in the future. An apology is nice and all, but the bare minimum in terms of action should be explicit rules against colonial practices. I can’t speak for all, but I wouldn’t be keen to simply trust a killer’s word that they’d not do it again.
