My Take: By Arianna Myers

On Wednesday, Quebec’s Education Minister, Jean-Francois Roberge, announced how the fall semester will work in elementary and high schools. Although students will be required to wear masks in common areas, there will be a lack of classroom bubbles and social distancing measures. Moreover, CO2 monitors to limit the risks of transmitting COVID-19 in schools will only be installed by December, despite Quebec’s promise that they would be in every classroom by the beginning of the school year.
In my opinion, adjustments to Quebec’s back-to-school plan need to be made as the fourth wave approaches and the Delta variant fuels an increase in cases, particularly among children under 12 years of age, who are not yet eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccines.
Therefore, I think that children must go back to school this fall appropriately, that is, with masks, bubbles, social distancing, and good ventilation systems.
