The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was Father’s Day.
When I think of my dad, I consider the extra mile he took in my childhood to create an incredible life for myself, my brother, and my late mother.
In the winter, he used a loader to gather an enormous snow pile, then spent all day carving slides, tunnels, chairs, and stairs into the massive mound. My brother and I spent hours pretending to rule our snow fortress.
In the spring, he would acquire large, black industrial plastic pipes and convert them into tunnels and slides for our treehouse. Again, the perfect fortress set-up for two elementary-aged children.
In the fall, to our dismay, he encouraged us to focus on our studies and complete our homework.
And in the summer, more specifically the third Sunday of June, we celebrated all he did for us throughout the year. Happy Father’s Day to all the father figures!
