My Take: By Cassie MacDonell

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was Roe v. Wade.

Overturning Roe v. Wade will not ban abortions. It will ban safe abortions. Whatever your stance, the fact remains that women will continue to receive abortions, no matter what law dictates. A needless increase in injuries and deaths. The decision speaks to the disconnect between the country and its citizens. Fifty-eight per cent of Americans believe abortions should be legal in all or most cases. A whopping 70 per cent believe the decision should be made by a woman and her doctor rather than regulated by law. Why such a large gap? A concern I have right now is what the decision will mean for the future. Will there be crackdowns on other individual rights, such as same-sex marriage? Overturning a high-profile law 50 years later amid a political divide will certainly ease tensions between the left and right of America. Good job, Supreme Court!
