My Take: By David Rossiter

In a controversial announcement on Wednesday, Premier Francois Legault announced that some businesses would reopen for March break. Among them, movie theatres will be reopening Feb. 26.
Many people saw this and were instantly upset, worried that a spike in Covid is imminent. While I’m upset, it’s actually the opposite concern for me.
I’m not directly opposed to movie theatres reopening. But it is a slap in the face to fitness centres, restaurants and other businesses that must remain closed despite no scientific evidence that movie theatres are safer.
Legault defended his hypocrisy with the argument that parents and kids need stuff to do over the break.
I agree with that. But I’m not sure I understand why movie theatres are being allowed to open and not similar endeavours like stage theatres, or concert halls.
Overall I do agree with the Premier reopening more industries.
