My Take: By David Rossiter

Freedom of speech does not equal freedom of consequences. That’s the way it should be. People should be able to criticize the government and have opinions not shared by the herd.
However, the concept of free speech does not, and should not, shield you from the consequences of your actions.
Big fan of extreme far right conspiracy theories? You’re free to be and talk about it but don’t be surprised when no one wants to talk to you anymore or you get fired after crossing a line on twitter.
Now some people might want to go further and ban the spread of false or “dangerous” ideas. Anti-mask or vaccine rhetoric is one topical example that’s been floated around.
I vehemently disagree. If certain ideas are so invalid that you want to ban them, you should be able to simply disprove them with your own alternatives.
