My Take: By Geoff Agombar

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was Deja Vu.

The subtitle of Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” is one of my favorite sayings: There and Back Again. Of course, the story was all about the adventures getting there, much less about how to get back again.
Driving home, I often have that feeling of suddenly finding I’m back again, but not quite certain where the time went. Pretty certain I followed the same route though, otherwise I’d have noticed. Right?
Here we are again, again. It feels weirdly routine to enter another holiday season where things are so familiarly strange. Just exactly as strange as the last, which was just as exactly unlike any other before.
Pandemic paradoxes have become such a grinding bore. Ho-hum, just another routine day of once-in-a-century crisis measures. Like, the old joke about being sick and tired of being sick and tired. Can’t shake the feeling, I’ve seen it all before.
