My Take: By Gordon Lambie

It is hard to name the greatest harm that Donald Trump has managed over the last four years, but right up there is the fact that he had us all looking at him so much and so often that we’ve forgotten to consider what’s going on in our own backyards.
It’s become so easy to say, “at least things are better here than in the States,” but looking into the neighbour’s yard doesn’t actually tell you what is going on in your own.
When we forgive extreme positions as just being outlying parts of the fabric of society, we ignore the runs and rips that threaten to tear that fabric into pieces.
The world has offered plenty of signs that racism, inequality, and prejudice are rampant, systemic issues. Choosing to ignore that or filing it away as somebody else’s problem only makes these problems worse.
