My Take: By Gordon Lambie

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week the topic was working from home.

Now is the time to start thinking about what to hold on to from this pandemic period, and what to let go of. It comes in all sorts of forms, from considering what role masks are going to continue to play in our lives, to flexibility around the idea of working from home.
Obviously some jobs are always going to require in-person interaction, because Zoom just doesn’t work for laying brick, but there is a strong suggestion that there might be some value to letting people continue to work at a distance, at least part of the time.
There’s debate over distraction and oversight, and with the unpredictable element of parenthood thrown into the mix what works one day might not the next, but if the work is getting done in the end, does it really matter where?
It’s at least worth asking the question.
