My Take: By Gordon Lambie

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week the topic was: prom.

Whether it’s prom or summer camp or any of the other ‘maybe allowed’ activities in the works right now, I sympathize with organizers.
When an activity that is normally planned over the course of months, if not an entire year, is given no clear information about what can actually be done until weeks or days before it would normally take place, it’s hardly surprising when planning teams aren’t racing to slap something together.
Sure, plans can be made “just in case,” but who wants to devote time and energy to getting excited about something only to have the rug pulled out from underneath them at the last minute?
Everyone wants to be able to say yes to the big, exciting events right now, but expectations about what can be planned in the very short term need to be balanced against a little bit of realism.
