My Take: By Gordon Lambie

There’s no shortage of issues with the Olympic Games on this or any year, most of which deserve more than 145 words worth of commentary, but something that sticks out to me when they come up every two to four (ish) years is how much more I enjoy watching some of the Olympic sports than the ones that are conventionally televised.
Hockey and football have large and legitimate followings, and that’s fine, but I’d watch all the canoe slalom races if there was a consistent platform to do so. Similarly, as far as I’m concerned, the skiers who do aerial jumping in the wintertime are some of the most impressive, and possibly crazy, athletes I have ever seen.
Possibly the greatest value of this ridiculous, overinflated competition is the opportunity it gives us to step outside the world of professional sports and see something different.
