My Take: By Gordon Lambie

I’ve had more than a few teachers over the years preach the slogan, “show, don’t tell” when it comes to writing. That has always been in the context of writing fiction, but the sentiment applies to calling out lies as well.
The argument that something is “fake news,” holds up better if it can be followed by evidence. Don’t just tell me it’s not true, show me why.
Ideally, we should all be double-checking the information we read and hear each day. Asking questions about what you read is just good practice, particularly when the subject of that reading is something controversial.
It’s even more important during an election.
If you have one, go-to source for news, get another one. The more reliable sources of information you have on hand, the more resources you have available to help decide whether something is fake, or not.
