The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was thinking long term.
Remember being able to plan things months in advance? I will admit to never having been a great long-term thinker, but even I am thrown for a loop by this world where it feels like we don’t know what things will be like at the end of the week, let alone this coming summer, or three years from now.
Long-term planning always means dealing with some uncertainty, because there are little aspects of life changing all the time that can throw things off the course you are expecting. The course corrections have been coming so often recently though, that it’s taking more of an emotional toll making plans only to see them evaporate when suddenly it is no longer permitted or feasible.
On the other hand, it feels pretty hopeless not to make any plans at all for fear that they might have to change.
