My Take: By Gordon Lambie

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was winter rain.

This has been a pretty good winter for figuring out how to make the best of less-than-ideal weather in our house.

While my preference in terms of winter weather is still for the increasingly rare phenomenon of massive snowstorms, we took advantage of the deep cold back in January to experiment with making ice-block art, and developed new strategies for forcing not-at-all sticky snow to take on a block shape for fort building.

I still haven’t come up with a work-around for the horrible winter rain I’m looking at out the window right now, though.

Having the cold and wet seep through your snowsuit is bad enough, but the way it turns the ground to slick danger just makes any kind of outdoor activity far more stressful than fun.

I’m a big silver-linings person, but it’s hard to see one in this not-at-all wintery weather.
