The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was homelessness.
There is not going to be a solution to homelessness somewhere on this page. If there is one, sure-fire formula that can put an end to this complex and varied issue (a questionable premise to begin with) it’s certainly not going to be found in a mini editorial or a social media post.
There is a difference, though, between not knowing how to solve a problem, and not working on it.
There was a conversation in the office here recently about the value of active versus passive participation: taking steps to directly address an
issue yourself versus supporting those who have the time, energy, or skills to be more involved. I think the disagreement was over the idea that one can passively participate in something.
In most cases, however, either of those options is better than just offering commentary from the sidelines and walking away.
