My Take: By Gordon Lambie

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was fair season.

I find myself wondering what fair season will be like this year.
Before the pandemic, each fair was such a homecoming to its community: people who had moved to far-flung locations would make a point of coming back for the fair if they could. It was weird to go to the fair and not run into a handful of people you hadn’t seen in a while.
How will that affect this first year of trying to make things “normal” again?
I keep getting stuck thinking about how many plans I’ve had to cancel in the last year because one person or another got sick, and about how many people there will be looking to reconnect after two years of nothing.
Am I excited about fair season starting up again? Sure, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me a bit nervous too.
