My Take: By Gordon Lambie

My Take: By Gordon Lambie

There’s a Groundhog Day feeling to elections in Quebec right now, with this being the third or fourth in the last year (depending on where things stood in the last school board elections).
Unlike Bill Murray’s character in the film, however, we’re not facing the same day over and over again, even if some of the procedures are very familiar.
Every time an election rolls around, I’m struck by how much confusion there is about the issues at play and the people involved. Setting aside questions of what government has the power to act on what issues, many don’t seem to be able to tell the difference between provincial and federal parties with similar names.
It’s a person’s own choice to engage with the process or not, but if you’re going to vote, then at least know who you’re choosing and what they stand for.
