My Take: By Johnathan Houle

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was thinking long term.

The future scares me a lot more than it should. When I look back on my childhood, I feel myself being envious of that little ignorant child who was carefree and enjoying his winter either in the mountains skiing or on his revamped snowmobile. Now, every time I turn on the news, an increase in government deficit, mounting issues with the healthcare system, food price increases, and housing market instability barrage me until I feel myself wanting to hug my knees in the corner of the room and regress back to that little child. Of course, we can’t forget about the pandemic which seems to be having a little too much fun kicking us while we’re already out for the count. As I look ahead at our future, I see it bearing a striking resemblance to Quebec roads; rough, poorly planned, and a slippery slope.
