Whether we like it or not, people will travel during March break. At this point, it’s inevitable.
We have seen it over and over again on social media; people preaching staying home but coming up with a million reasons why “they deserve a break.” While partially founded in hypocrisy and selfishness, we need to recognize that wealth gets you out of anything – including a pandemic.
The reality is, those who can afford the fines, will take their chances. Until there are serious legal repercussions or a ban on all travels, people in the upper echelon of society will tell you they needed to travel because of x, y and z.
Fines only affect those who cannot afford to pay them. So, unless we come up with a better way to penalize reckless travelers between now and Mar. 1, expect stories about “Joe going to Cuba.”
